Home sweet home
a series of decorative works
Home Sweet Home is an interactive installation inspired by my love for cozy spaces. As a student studying Art History, this body of work is informed by an interest in the decoration and art collections of 19th-century women in America . Though my work has transformed over the past few years, my art practice is rooted in a deep love for making dollhouses and pretty objects for my room. I have always gravitated towards mediums traditionally used and collected by women in the visual arts. As I reimagine this gallery as a domestic space, I hope to highlight the beauty of these folk mediums through my tactically-intense and playful process.

Working with mixed media allows me to incorperate multiple dimensions into each work. Although there are technical barriers at times, I view each project as an ongoing piece, to be altered and recylced over and over. I feel a sense of agency when using my own material and managing all aspects of the work.
In Home Sweet Home I install multiple picture frames across the wall containing small photo collages embelished with fabric and paint.
The images were shot in March to showcase designs for a fashion show at my school. In my installation I display the physical fabrics next to their photo copies, now transformed by my hand, to emphasize this continuity.
